Corn Shoots

Popcorn shoots (aka popcorn microgreens) look a bit like tender, long, bright yellow grass. This yellow color is due to being grown in special dark greenhouses, where preventing the plants from photosynthesizing keeps them from developing green chlorophyll (not unlike white asparagus). Popcorn shoots are grown from a particular variety of popcorn kernels, and have a rather sweet corn flavor with a slightly-sour, grassy finish evoking wheatgrass. Their texture is moist yet crunchy, almost like bean sprouts.

Shelf Life: Up to ten days.

Lead Time: 10 days

Microgreen Herbs

🚧 UNDER CONSTRUCTION 🚧
Our micro herbs, like all microgreens, have higher concentrations of nutrients than their adult counterparts. Micro herbs are especially tender. In terms of flavor, most micro herbs have more intense flavor than mature herbs.

Basil

Basil’s distinct mint-anise flavor is an important part of traditional Italian cuisine and is a traditional symbol of love in that culture. Often it is added to hot dishes at the very end of the cooking process in order to protect its flavor. Micro Italian basil possesses that same flavor, but in a more subtle form, which will appeal to people who are looking for a milder version of the mature plant’s potent taste. Micro Lemon Basil and red Opal Basil are also available.

Basil is a common aromatic herb in the mint family, the same plant family as other nutrient dense, beneficial herbs, including mint, oregano and rosemary. The taste is sweet, but savory, and just like the smell, it is peppery, yet ever so slightly minty. Basil, of course, is used to add flavor to a variety of recipes, but what may surprise you is the many benefits of basil that make it well-known for its immunity-enhancing properties and is one of the most important medical herbs known today. Basil has vitamin A, K, C and manganese.

Storage: Basil microgreens should be kept in their plastic clamshell in the fridge until you are ready to use them. Shelf Life: Generally between 5-7 days.
